Bruny Island, just off the coast of Hobart, is a paradise for food lovers and nature enthusiasts. If you're planning a visit, here’s some essential info to make your trip smoother. Now I have multiple ‘Things to Do’ listed on my map but here are a few key things to know before your visit. Since there’s no bridge connecting the island to the mainland, you’ll need to hop on a ferry for a quick 20-minute ride. The return fare for a vehicle under 6 meters is $53.20.

For those of us who like to keep things budget-friendly and spontaneous, the only free campsite on the island is The Pines Campsite. It’s got toilets but no other facilities. The site can be a bit uneven, so arriving early is a good idea as it can fill up quickly being the island's only free option. If you’re open to paying a little, there are also budget-friendly campsites available for $10 per night. Just a heads-up these campsites operate on honesty boxed and a cash-only basis, so make sure to bring some with you.
