Balos Beach, also known as Balos Lagoon, is a fabulous beach located in the north-west of Crete. With its turquoise waters and pink-hued sand, it's often ranked as one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

You can reach Balos by boat from Kissamos or opt for a guided tour from Chania, Rethymnon, or Heraklion.

For those feeling adventurous, renting a boat or driving to Balos by car are also options. Beware that when driving you will need to drive on a road with small rocks and it will approximately take 30 min to arrive at the parking spot.

Don't forget that most cars are not insured against damage when driving on unpaved roads. Double check first!

From the top until the beach you will need to walk for about 20 minutes with spectacular views of the bay and it surroundings. The climb up back is steep and it can be challenging. Bring enough water with you and preferable at least sneakers to do the climb. At balos itself you will find a small canteen where they offer drinks.

At the beach you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Don't forget that during the high season, boats dock with hundreds of people who also want to visit this beautiful place.

Please bring your garbage back or leave it at the disposed garbages and leave only footprints.
