Note the beach here is very muddy so don't wear good shoes if you want to walk up to the wreck at low tide.
The Janie Seddon shipwreck is an iconic landmark located in the Motueka Foreshore, dating back to her rich history as a military vessel and submarine working in both World Wars with rumours she even fired the first shot in WW2. Her later years saw her purchased by Talley’s fishing group, operating unsuitable and too large for coastal waters before being laid up on the Motueka Wharf. After sinking at her moorings, she was stripped of anything of use and left to the elements. Today, photographers from near and far still come to capture the unique beauty of her ruins, but visitors are reminded to keep safe by admiring her from a distance.
