Triple Falls, nestled in the forests of Errington, is a stunning yet often overlooked waterfall that offers fantastic photographic opportunities, particularly in autumn and spring. However, I don't recommend It in the summer, as it is usually dry.

Best Conditions for Photography

While the falls peak during moderate seasonal rains, heavy rainfall can cause excessive froth and bubbles, which may diminish the water's aesthetic appeal. Under the right conditions, however, the upper falls can produce a mesmerizing circular eddy, creating fantastic swirling patterns for long-exposure photography.

Rubber boots or chest waders are highly recommended for those who want to capture the lower falls from the best vantage points. Accessing some areas requires wading through shallow water.

How to Get There

  • From Parksville: Travel south on Alberni Highway (4A) and turn left onto Bellevue Road, then right onto Ruffels Road. Take a left onto Leffler Road (where Ruffels makes a sharp 90° turn), then left onto Middlegate Road, and right onto Sierra Road, which leads to a gravel cul-de-sac where you can park.

  • From Coombs: Travel east on Alberni Highway (4A) and turn right onto Errington Road. At the junction, turn left onto Grafton Avenue, which leads to Leffler Road. Turn right and follow the exact directions as above.

The short hike to the falls is relatively easy. Please stay on the well-worn trails as the area is surrounded by private property. The private property is well-marked. Sturdy footwear is recommended because the trail can be slippery in wet conditions. Whether you're capturing the falls with long-exposure techniques or focusing on autumn foliage or spring wildflowers, Triple Falls offers a rewarding experience for nature photographers.
