St Giles' Cathedral, otherwise known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, is a prominent parish church in the heart of Scotland's Old Town. Founded in the 12th century and dedicated to Saint Giles- the patron saint of lepers- the church was elevated to collegiate status by Pope Paul II in 1467. Since then, it has held multiple connections with Scottish history, ranging from its use in Presbyterianism revelations to its association with figures such as John Knox, a leader of the Reformation in Scotland. A must-visit site for any visitor, St Giles' holds a host of historical gems including the Thistle Chapel, designed by Robert Lorimer, which contains stained glass depictions of Saint Giles. With over a million visitors per year, St Giles' is a symbol of Scotland's rich past, present, and future.
