Everything you need to know about visiting Kluane National Park

Storm and Dalton
Yukon, Canada
Kluane National Park and Reserve is one of the most breathtaking places in Canada, but it is also one of the most remote. This is not a park you can show up to unprepared.
Location
2.5 hrs from Whitehorse, Yukon.
Roads to get into the park are paved and well maintained.
Services
Inside the park, there are no restaurants, stores, gas stations or cell service so you must be self sufficient. The only place in the park you will find staff is sometimes at the campgrounds and at the information centre located near Sheep Creek Trail.
Haines Junction is the closest town to the park and where you will stay if you are not camping. This is a very small town with a few restaurants, gas stations and shops. Bring everything you need with you, especially food, snacks, and hiking supplies.
Where to stay
If camping, Kathleen Lake Campground is the nicest. It doesnt have any hook ups, but it is a nice campground. Parks Canada also has OTentik's here, which is basically a glamping tent.
We did not stay in any hotels so I can't actually recommend them, but these are the options:
Best time to visit: Late June to early September
Hiking Expectations
Trails in Kluane are less maintained than parks like Banff. They can be muddy, have creek crossings or just have less people than usual. We went in July and although we saw other cars in the parking lots of the trails, we rarely saw other people on the trails.
Our favourite trails:
Bear spray is essential — not optional.
You should: Carry bear spray on every hike, Know how to use it, Make noise while hiking & Never hike with food unsecuredIf you are someone who doesnt care for hiking but still wants to visit Kluane, consider booking a group trip. This lets you learn about the area and see the highlights without having to go alone or worry about driving yourself. You can look into that option here
