If you’re staying in Theth and looking for a short, scenic hike with a great endpoint, Grunas Waterfall is one of the easiest and most rewarding places to explore. Just under an hour from the village center, this 25-meter waterfall drops into a small, clear pool surrounded by forest and cliffs. It’s a peaceful spot, especially in the morning, and a great way to experience the natural beauty of the Albanian Alps without committing to a full-day trek.

What is Grunas Waterfall?
Located on the western slope of the Theth Valley, Grunas Waterfall is a designated natural monument and a popular highlight within Theth National Park. The waterfall flows down from the mountains above, carving through limestone and splashing into a cool, emerald pool at the base.

Getting There:
The trail to Grunas Waterfall starts from the center of Theth village and takes about 45–60 minutes each way, depending on your pace. You will start the hike at thee point on Google Maps called “Bridge for Cars”, close to Bujtina Miqesia and Guesthouse Marashi. From there, you’ll follow the path along the river, right by Kunora e Grunasit, and into the woods. The path is well marked.

The first 20 minutes follow a relatively flat path along the river. The second part of the walk dives into the woods and has a slight incline, but it’s not too challenging and is well marked throughout. The total hike is very manageable, making it a good option for all levels of hikers, including families.

When to Visit:
You can visit from June to September, but my favorite months are June and September when the weather is ideal and the trail is less crowded. I recommend heading out in the morning to get ahead of the crowds: the area is especially peaceful before noon, and you’re more likely to have less people there.

Swimming?:
There’s a small pool at the base of the waterfall, and while it’s beautiful, the water is very cold. If you’re visiting in late spring or early summer, it can be refreshing, but more often than not, people opt to only sightly dip in and relax nearby.

What to Bring:
You don’t need much for this hike, but I suggest comfortable walking shoes or trainers, water, and maybe a light jacket depending on the weather and gif you go in the morning.

Where to Stay:
There are a ton of great family-run guesthouses in Theth. I recommend Bujtina Miqësia and Guesthouse Gjoni. Both are welcoming, family-run guesthouse in Theth with great food. They can also help organize transport or provide tips for the area.

Whether you're in Theth for a few days or just one night, Grunas Waterfall is an easy, rewarding addition to your itinerary: perfect for a short morning hike or a relaxed afternoon adventure.
