What you'll do

🌸Here are 3 popular cherry blossom hotspots in Stockholm.🌸 The season usually peaks around middle/end of April. There is also a cherry blossom day celebrated together with the Japanese association in Stockholm end of April. You can find the schedule and date on their website: http://japanskaforeningenisthlm.se/sv/ in 2023 it is on the 23rd of April from 13:00-17:00 at Kungsträdgården.

Day 1

You could probably make it to all 3 of the most popular hotspots in one day and catch them all!

Here is how I would do it:

  • get some take-away breakfast and coffee at Stora Bageriet (opens 7:30/8am) and walk to Kungsträdgården or opt for a breakfast at Thelins Grand Cafe (opens at 9am) right by the cherry blossom trees

  • Start with your first cherry blossom stop at Kungsträdgården in the morning

  • From here walk to the metro station Östermalmstorg and take the metro to Mariatorget (exit Torkel Knutssongatan)

  • Check out the beautiful cherry blossoms at Bysistorget and stop at Kaffebar for a fika/lunch

  • once you feel like you soaked it all in, walk 5 minutes to the bus stop Zinkensdamm and catch the number 74 towards Sickla Udde. Hop off at Luma, which is your final cherry blossom hotspot.

  • When you are ready to leave this spot and got all the shots you need, head to Nya Carnegiebryggeriet, which is just a few minutes walking and wind down with a beer and some hearty food by the water.

Cherry blossom day - complete! 🌸

1

Stora bageriet

café

Artisinal bakery in Östermalm

When in Östermalm you should definitely stop by at Stora bageriet, which makes fantastic baked goods - everything from bread to buns and you can also get a (wine)lunch here! I really love the building it is located in - the oldest industrial building in Stockholm, which used to be a military bakery. What I really love here is that they always have a vegan bun on the menu!

2

Thelins Grand Cafe

café

Fika & cherry blossoms

Thelins Grand Café & Vinbar is a café and wine bar located in Kungsträdgården, the beautiful central park of Stockholm where you can see the cherry blossoms while enjoying a fika. Be aware that this is a touristy spot and my recommendation is to stick to a classic fika = sweets & coffee. It might be a bit pricey here, but you pay for the view. Their pastry is good and coming from their bakery in Gröndal, which delivers to several of their locations across town. However, for a lunch or dinner I would head to some of the other places in the area.

3

Kungsträdgården

Passeio turístico

Cherry blossom hotspot (seasonal)

This is probably one of the most popular hotspots for cherry blossoms in Stockholm and for sure makes a great photo opportunity. The season is usually in the middle of April and lasts a few short weeks, also depending on the weather. Since it is so popular, make sure you come here early during the day (like 8am) to avoid the crowds if you want to take some photos.

4

Kaffebar

café

coffee bar under the cherry trees in Södermalm

Kaffebar Cafe is an especially exciting spot during cherry blossom season, since its located directly at one of Stockholms most popular cherry blossom spots. Perfect for a fika during a sunny day! Fun fact: the cafe is the same place author Stieg Larsson frequented while working on the famed “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. They also get their cookies and baked goods from the popular Valhallabageriet, so you are in for a treat!

5

Bysistorget

Passeio turístico

Cherry Blossom hotspot in Södermalm

This is probably the most popular cherry blossom spot in Södermalm and you can easuly get here by bus or metro to Mariatorget (exit Torkel Knutssongatan). When here, you can also stop by at Kaffebar to enjoy the view with a cup of coffee and some sweet treats. Or get some burgers and beer at Barrels while here which you can also find directly at the plaza.

6

Luma Park

Passeio turístico

Cherry Blossom hotspot in Hammarby Sjöstad

This is another popular hotspot during the cherry blossom season in Stockholm, which you can find in Hammarby Sjöstad. You can easily get here with the public transport taking the tram stopping right at Luma or you can also come here with the ferry that is commuting between Södermalm and Hammarby Sjöstad. While in the area, you can stop by Nya Carnegiebryggeriet, which is a brewery right by the water or swing by Magnus Johansson Bageri which is just a 5 minute walk away and has fantastic baked goods!

7

Nya Carnegiebryggeriet

restaurante

Brewery and beer garden in the city

You dont have to travel far to get beer directly from a brewery in Stockholm! Nya Carnegiebryggeriet is located in Hammarbysjöstad and its very easy to get here with the tram or my favourite way to get here is taking the free ferry that is going there from Södermalm. The brewery also offers a beer tasting tray and a range of food. Make sure to also keep an eye out for events like their beer tastings or music events. I love to come here in the summer!
