With its distinctive arch rising from the sea, Bow Fiddle Rock is a natural sculpture crafted by the forces of erosion and time. This striking geological formation, located near Portknockie, is a testament to the power of the sea and the wind, which have shaped the quartzite rock into its current form. The rock's name derives from its resemblance to the tip of a fiddle bow, a poetic tribute to the artistry of nature's hand.

The Story

The spectacle of Bow Fiddle Rock is best appreciated at dawn or dusk, when the light casts shadows that accentuate its majestic form against the backdrop of the North Sea. It's a place that draws photographers, artists, and nature enthusiasts, all seeking to capture the essence of this unique landmark. The surrounding coastline, with its jagged cliffs and hidden coves, offers a chance for exploration and the chance to discover the diverse marine and bird life that calls this area home. From seaguls, cormorants and razorbills to whales, dolphins and otters! Spending some time on a bench with a local chippy watching them go about their day is time very well spent.

There's a new little parking spot (for vehicles under 2m, anything over just park outside) which is never too busy. Take time to explore and take in the sights and sounds of the rough coast surrounding you. It's a special place that easily be overlooked as another tourist spot.

Don’t Miss
