If you've looked at photos of Finland, you probably stumbled across this little island! Well, this is the famous Kotisaari "home island" in Rovaniemi.
I've only taken photos of the famous island with my drone and it's one of the coolest photo spots I know in Finland! By the time of writing, you are only allowed to fly up to 50m in height. Check https://flyk.com/map?drone&lang=en#p=13.57/66.48657/25.73411 before flying the drone here, as it's next to the city and near an airport.
Rovaniemi was a legendary lumberjack town, and the Ounas- and Kemi rivers were used as floating channels for the logging industry from the late 1800s century until the end of 1980 when the floating channels were replaced by the more modern use of trucks.
In the old days, Kotisaari Island was a traditional stronghold of the Lumberjacks in Kemijoki. the Lumberjacks’ history still lives on in the buildings of the island. The old boathouse has been renovated and it is now used as a tavern.
You can only reach the island by boat along the scenic Kemi River. It's possible to spend a nice day on the island by going on a guided tour by Lapland Safaris during the summer and autumn seasons.
