Roebuck Bay, located in Western Australia's Kimberley region, is a picturesque bay named after the ship HMS Roebuck. With its red sandy beaches, mangroves, and grasslands, this 550 km2 tropical marine embayment is a hotspot for wildlife. The bay boasts a diverse ecosystem, including eleven mangrove species and extensive seagrass beds that attract marine life like dugongs and green turtles. It's also a haven for waders or shorebirds, making it a popular spot for birdwatching and recreational activities like fishing. Plus, the bay has a fascinating history, including a tragic event during World War II when Dutch flying boats were attacked by Japanese planes.
