Yuki no Ōtani, also known as the snow canyon of Tateyama, is a stunning natural wonder located on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Road in Japan. Visitors can walk between two massive snow walls sometimes 20 meters high, creating a surreal and magical experience. The canyon is only accessible by bus and is open from April to June, offering a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a snowy paradise before the summer melts it all away.
FYI to set expectations: while the place is really incredible to see, it’s flooded with tourists. Perhaps consider extending the experience with a hike to one of the mountain huts in the area, stay overnight, and be at the snow walls early in the morning before the crowds!
