Tawada Luxury Desert Camp is a Sahara desert camp located deep in the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga.
Getting there is already part of the experience - I arrived via 4x4 ride across the dunes. As you approach the camp, the landscape opens into endless golden sand waves and the isolation becomes part of the atmosphere.
The camp itself features spacious private tents with proper beds, bathrooms, and hot showers, combining traditional Berber-style design with modern comfort. At night, the entire place transforms into a atmospheric setting with candlelight and campfires.
Typical experiences include sunset camel rides, sandboarding, 4x4 desert tours and evenings with traditional Berber music around the fire. The highlight is the night sky - completely clear, with dense stars visible due to the lack of light pollution.
Meals are usually traditional Moroccan dishes served communally, often tagines and local specialties, and the hospitality is a consistent highlight.
Access: Camel trek or 4x4 transfer
Accommodation: Private luxury tents with bathroom
Activities: Camel rides, sandboarding, 4x4 tours
Best time: October–April (cooler desert climate)
