Why You Should Wake Up Early in Venice (Even If You're Not a Morning Person)
Venice rewards the early riser with silence, light, and a glimpse of its true soul.
Marco Secchi
Venice, Italy
Venice wakes slowly — and if you get up before the crowds, you’ll find a side of the city that feels like it belongs only to you.
As a photographer, I chase the light — but even if you're not carrying a camera, early morning in Venice is a gift: fog rising from the canals, fishermen starting their day, the echo of footsteps in empty calli. St. Mark’s Square is silent, and Rialto is yours alone.
Want a reward for waking early?
Have a cappuccino at Torrefazione Cannaregio
Watch the light hit the Grand Canal from Fondamenta Zattere
Or just sit at Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio and breathe.
✨ Travel tip: If you're here in winter, you're more likely to find morning fog — especially in November and February.
📸 Want to make the most of this time? I offer private morning photo walks starting at blue hour — and yes, spritz is included later!
