Like most cities around New Zealand, Dunedin doesn’t have many options for camping if you’re keen to stay as close to the city centre as possible. However, Dunedin Holiday Park (the largest in the city) is located just 4.5km from the centre and adjacent to St Kilda Beach.
They have a huge range of accommodation options available from cabins and lodges to powered and unpowered sites for campervans and tents.
I haven’t personally stayed here, but I know a few friends who have and they said that while it wasn’t the best holiday park they’ve ever stayed at, it did the job for a couple of nights exploring the city. (Let’s be honest, you’re not going to compete with DOC campsite locations or anything close to Lakes Edge at Lake Tekapo!)
Facilities include two kitchens, a communal TV and dining room, laundry, free wifi, a playground and even a shop. The cost of staying here for one night starts at $25 for an unpowered site and ranges up to $155 for their cabins.
