Jungfrau Region is perhaps the most popular mountain region in Switzerland and for good reason. It has some of the most spectacular views, exciting trails and famous peaks like the Eiger.

This region has several mountain lifts that run year round, including Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn, and Grindelwald First. So even if trails close due to snow, you still have access to many mountain viewpoints during October.

In this itinerary, I've included our favorite fall activities in this region. Some require mountain lifts that close in mid October. So I've noted alternatives if you visit after this time.

The itinerary has a day for each area in this region, with a variety of activities in that region. You don't have to do everything listed for each day.

This day focuses on the Mürren Schithorn area, which is closest to Lauterbrunnen.

If you want easy and no-hike activities, I would visit the Schilthorn viewpoint, then stroll through the Mürren village and maybe walk down to Gimmelwald. This is possible anytime in October.

If you have children, I would visit the Allmendhubel Flower Park and perhaps add a hike down to Mürren, either direct or on the Northface Trail.

If you want to hike, the Northface Trail is a good option and not too long, so you could add on other activities.

Note that in 2023, the Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp-Mürren cable car and train are closed for renovation starting 2 Oct 2023. So hikes that rely on that connection are not possible during this time and I've not included them here.
