This fun activity trail has a dozen elaborate marble runs along a short mountain trail. Our crew had lots of fun racing their marbles down the different tracks and competing with each other.

Trail: Easy • 1.5 h • 3 km • 150m down • See trail map.

Location: Meiringen cable car - Underem Gfell, 3860 Meiringen (east of Interlaken)

Open: late May to late October

How to get there

This trail is located in the Hasliberg mountain resort, east of Interlaken.

To reach the trail, ride a cable car from Meiringen to Reuti. Then a gondola to the Bidmi station, where you'll find a playground and start of Marble Run trail. The trail hikes downhill, ending at the Reuti station.

By public transport: Train to Meiringen. Then 10 min walk through village to Meiringen cable car.

By car: park near the Meiringen cable car at Underem Gfell, 3860 Meiringen CH. Alternatively you can drive partway up the mountain to Reuti and park near the gondola station Resti 5, 6086 Hasliberg.

Trail info

The trail starts at the Bidmi station, where you'll find a big playground and picnic area. Plan for playtime here before starting the hike. Then plan for about 1.5-2 hours on the trail, which includes walking and playtime on the marble runs.

Make sure to purchase the wooden marble from the vending machine at the cable car station before starting the hike. The first marble run is at the Bidmi station before getting on the trail.

The marble run path is all downhill on a dirt path. It's not very difficult but the terrain is sometimes steep and bumpy, not suitable for strollers.

The mountain views on the Kugelweg are very nice, but since you are often in the forest and at a lower elevation, you don’t get big panorama views like you do up top. But this also makes it a good choice for a very hot day when you need some shade.

Planning your day

We usually start our day with the Muggestutz activity trail higher up the mountain. , making for a full day on the mountain. We also

You can also optionally start by visiting the Alpen Tower viewpoint at 2275m to get the big panorama views before heading lower down the mountain for hiking.

Tickets

When purchasing your cable car tickets, tell them which trail you intend to do and they will sell you the correct ticket. An adult ticket costs about CHF 24-34, depending on where you catch the cable car.

You get a discount for children, Swiss Travel Pass, SBB GA and Half-fare. Kids with SBB Junior Card or under 6 ride free.

IMPORTANT! Don't forget to purchase a large wooden "marble" to use on the trail. They sell it at the gondola station ticket offices. We found it best for each child to have their own marble or there were fights.
