Best known for its legendary springtime daffodil bloom, the Golica hike offers sweeping views, rolling alpine pastures, and a peaceful escape from the crowds. Starting from Planina pod Golico, this challenging out-and-back hike climbs steadily through forest and open meadows to reach the summit of Mount Golica at just over 5,800 feet. The roundtrip distance is about 6 miles with roughly 3,000 feet of elevation gain — enough to get your legs working, but not too intense for a half-day outing.
If you time it right in May, the hillsides explode with wild white daffodils — a truly magical sight and one of Slovenia’s most underrated natural spectacles. On clear days, you’ll get panoramic views stretching all the way to Austria and the Karawanks range. There’s also a charming mountain hut (Koča na Golici) near the top that makes a great rest stop. Whether you're chasing flowers or just looking for a quieter mountain trail with big payoffs, Golica is an unforgettable pick.
We are avid Alltrails users, but could not find a good route of this hike in the app. We have linked a great website that was an excellent resource for this trail and many others in Slovenia!
