Location:

Ronny Creek is located within Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in north-west Tasmania. The trailhead is accessible via the sealed Cradle Mountain Road and is well-signposted. Parking is available at the visitor area, making it easy to reach for all vehicles. The Park offers a shuttle bus from the visitor center directly to Ronny Creek. During shuttle bus operating hours you are not allowed to drive with your own car into the park. Shuttle bus tickets are included in the entry fee.

Hike length:

The Ronny Creek walk is approximately 2–3 km return, taking around 30–60 minutes depending on your pace and time spent enjoying the views and the wombats.

Difficulty Level:

Easy — the trail is mostly flat and well-formed, with gentle slopes. It’s suitable for families and casual walkers, with only minor obstacles such as tree roots and small steps.

Dogs allowed:

No, dogs are not permitted within Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.

Entry Fees:

Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park requires a visitor pass. Daily entry costs AUD $28 per adult, with children free. A 2-month holiday pass is also available for AUD $55 per adult, which is ideal if you plan to explore multiple trails and spend more time in the park.

More information:

The walk follows the serene Ronny Creek, winding through temperate rainforest and open alpine heathlands. Towering eucalypts, mossy logs, and ferns create a peaceful atmosphere, with the sound of flowing water accompanying you along the trail.

But the main attraction are the wombats. Especially in the late afternoon you will see them grazing right next to the board walk. If you're lucky, you'll see dozens of them. Next to Maria Island, this is the best spot to see wombats in the wild in Tasmania.

You’ll also enjoy scenic views of the surrounding mountains and on clear days, glimpses of Cradle Mountain’s rugged peaks. The track is well-maintained, with several spots perfect for taking photos or enjoying a quiet rest. This short walk is ideal as a warm-up before tackling longer hikes in the park, like the Dove Lake Circuit or Cradle Summit.
