Norway loves sheep and the farmers who raise them are fierce protectors of their flock. This is why Norway has super strict leash laws during much of the year. In the winter, this is less of a rule but once the sheep leave the barns and head out to the fields and mountains, you absolutely need to have your dog on a leash. If your dog ends up chasing a sheep, legally your dog can be put down. It's a horrible and serious reality to consider. We have our dog with us on every hike and just bring a long lead when we are in the mountains! It's easy to keep the dogs and sheep safe if you mind the rules.
