This is one of Lofoten's hidden gems. What I love most about Røst, besides all the birdlife, whales offshore and remoteness of it is the simple fact that the preferred way to travel on the island is by bicycle. It's amazing to be on an island where you can't hear any cars, there's no traffic and when you arrive at your hotel or restaurant, there are 20 bikes outside, leaned up against the walkway. You feel like you're stepping back in time!

If you're interested in wildlife, it's also one of the best jumping off points for a trip to watch nesting puffins, razorbills, gannets, kittiwakes and so many other incredible seabirds. You're also bound to see orcas if you keep a close eye!

Røst is a quaint and beautiful island, one of Lofoten's outermost, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and quiet, village atmosphere. one of the most captivating aspects of life on Røst is its unique culture. It has a vibrant local cultural life that includes the annual Puffin Festival, an opera based off of local folklore, and a literary park dedicated to the Venetian sea captain Pietro Querini, who was rescued there in 1432 and recorded vivid accounts of life on the island. In addition, Røst hosts 600 fishing boats at its peak fishing season, and its economy is mainly supported by the fishing industry along with tourism oriented around people looking for an off the beaten track experience. With 469 inhabitants spread across 10 square kilometres, Røst provides an idyllic sense of rural charm and tight-knit community that celebrates its rich history and culture!
