Just outside Sandur, the unpaved road to Søltuvík leads you into one of Sandoy’s wildest and most peaceful corners. Along the way, you’ll find a small hiking path that brings you to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the bay and the dramatic sea stack known as “Drangarnir.” The walk is short and easy, though it can be a bit muddy — so waterproof shoes are a smart choice. Keep an eye out for the hiking sign on the left side of the road; from there, the route is marked with poles.
If you’d rather skip the hike, no problem — you can continue along the gravel road straight to the bay itself.
Søltuvík is a beautiful area with smooth, sea-worn stones (“malargrót”), dramatic cliffs, and often seals lounging along the shoreline. It's easily accessible whether you're coming on foot or by car — and it’s one of the island’s top photo spots.
The view here is pure magic. With the sea stack rising out of the ocean, cliffs towering around you, and light that shifts throughout the day, it’s like stepping into a fantasy film.
