Can you explore Manitoba without a car? Are there any buses, trains traveling throughout or to the North of Manitoba?

Manitoba, Canada

We get this question quite often as to whether there is a way to travel around Manitoba by way of public transportation if you don't have a car, and the answer is No, for most of the part. Let us explain why. There is a public transit system available in Winnipeg, but that transit stops at the perimeter highway. So the Winnipeg bus is not an option. Now, there is Via Rail Canada, a train that travels to the North and Manitoba including Churchill, which is only accessible by train or flight. Via Rail can reach these destinations in Manitoba: Dauphin, Thompson, Churchill. So, Via rail can be used to reach a few destinations in Northern Manitoba, but not all the destinations listed in our 12-Day Itinerary.

Beside travelling by car, there are flights offered to different spots in Northern Manitoba. You can fly to places in the North like: The Pas, Thompson, using airlines like Calm Air, Frontiers North Adventures
