The Vereda do Larano hike is another one for the books! 😍

This beautiful hike takes you along the north-eastern part of Madeira – first along a levada, and then along the coast where you get some insane views of the ocean and the Madeiran coastline ⛰️🌊🌺

Trail information:

• Official name: Levada do Caniçal – Vereda do Larano

• Distance: 12 km / 7.45 miles one way

• Elevation: Roughly 967 m / 3173 ft. elevation gain

• Length: 3-4 hours one way (includes time for pictures and a lunch break)

• Difficulty: Moderate to hard

How to get there:

• Option 1: Take bus 113 to the trailhead above Machico, then take a taxi back to your hotel after 🚌🚕

• Option 2: Take your car, and do the hike as an in-and-out trail 🚗

  • OR book a private transfer from Porto da Cruz back to your car in Machico

• Option 3: Go on a guided tour (with transport included) 🥾

With zero shade on the trail, we also recommend bringing:

• 🧴 Sunscreen

• 💧 Plenty of water

• 🧢 A cap

• 📸 Camera (for the photos)

• 💶 Cash (for the bus if you're taking public transport)
