Cristo Rei is a 15-meter-tall statue of Jesus Christ located in Garajau, Madeira ✝️

It was built in 1927 to commemorate the area's history, where non-Catholic Christians were once thrown from cliffs...

Fun fact: This statue was actually completed four years before the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil.

Below the statue, there's a nice (but steep) walking path down to a beautiful viewpoint of the coast and the ocean. Great for sunsets! 🌅
