Our go-to spot for coffee in Funchal is Padaria Pastelaria Mariazinha — technically a bakery, but it’s where we end up most mornings after our run along the waterfront 🏃🏼‍♀️

They serve really good Portuguese coffee (we usually go for a ‘Chinesa’, which is similar to a cappuccino) and have an awesome selection of baked goods. If you’re in the mood for something traditional, try the ‘Queijada’ (a sweet cheese pastry made with a ricotta-like cheese) or grab a classic ‘Pastel de Nata’ – the famous Portuguese custard tart yum 🤤

Mariazinha is right on Rua de Santa Maria, the street known for its colourful painted doors, so grab a coffee and then go explore!
