Pico do Areeiro is the third-highest peak on Madeira Island, standing at 1,818 meters high, and it's also the most iconic peak on the island.
It's a popular spot for sunrise, and lots of people will make the trip from Funchal to Pico do Areeiro in the morning to catch the amazing sunrise from one of the highest peaks on Madeira 🌄
Pro tip: It's worth noting that Pico do Areeiro is famous for the sunrise, but we actually love to switch it up a bit...
We like doing sunrise at Pico Ruivo and then coming later in the day to Pico do Arieiro when there are fewer people here. It's also great for sunset!
👉🏼 Make sure to check the Madeira Web Cams for the conditions before making the drive up.
💶 There’s a €3 entry fee to do this hike, which you need to pay before you start the hike. You can do that here.
⚠️ Due to a wildfire in August 2024, the trail is partially closed right now – but you can still go to the peak and hike the first section to the famous "Stairway of Heaven" and enjoy the epic views 😎
