This spot feels like something out of a fairytale – especially if you catch it in the fog! But even on a sunny day, it’s so beautiful (and you can actually see the coast below).
We suggest heading here as early as you’re comfortable with for a better chance of getting the perfect foggy conditions. And bring a warm sweater as it can get cold!
Fanal is part of the Laurissilva Forest in the northwest of Madeira, and it’s one of the most unique places on the island...
The forest is filled with ancient, twisted laurel trees, soft moss underfoot, and if you're lucky, rolling clouds drifting through the valley 🌳😶🌫️
There are several hiking trails in the area, too – including PR13 Vereda do Fanal – but we actually suggest heading over to PR6 Levada das 25 Fontes instead for a completely different vibe (and beautiful waterfalls!).
Whether you’re here for a peaceful walk, a foggy photo mission, or just a quiet moment in nature, it’s totally worth the early start.
