Every December - February the Red Lotus Lake Kumphawapi in Udon Thani fills up with millions of pink lotus flowers creating an actual fairytale scene. 🥹🪷

OPEN TIME: 06:00-17:00 BUT ‼️ the best time to visit is from sunrise to 11 am because the lotus flowers open at the first sight of light and close again around 11 am, so if you go later than 11 am you won’t be able to see the flowers in bloom! There is a potential that they open again before sunset but it is not guaranteed, so plan your trip for the morning.

GET THERE: 1 hour from Udon Thani and I would recommend hiring your own scooter to get there, alternatively hiring a driver/taking a Grab.

COST: 💶: 300 baht for a small boat (takes up to 2 people)
500 baht for a big boat (takes up to 5 people)
If possible I’d recommend a small boat since they are more picturesque and you’ll be able to get closer to the lotus flowers.
HOWEVER, the Red Lotus Lake is very popular with locals that generally have no problem with getting up early for sunrise so the small boats can get snatched up fast. We arrived at 06:30 am on a cold Tuesday morning and all of the small boats had already been taken so we had to wait until 07:30 am for the next ones. 🤯 Avoid weekends and national holidays if possible because it can get very busy.
