Perhaps the most famous square in Barcelona is Plaça Catalunya. The square is relatively new and dates back to the time when the residential district of Eixample was established in the second half of the nineteenth century. Until then, what is now Plaça de Catalunya was just outside the city. People passed through here on their way to and from old Barcelona.

In 1902, the first phase of construction began. Ultimately, the square was officially inaugurated on November 2, 1927.

During Christmas, the square is not only beautifully illuminated, but also a major event takes place here, fantastic to visit. In the morning, afternoon, and evening, there are various enjoyable activities, such as street art, music, installations, and digital art. Everything revolves around Christmas! Another great tip: from the café-restaurant on the top floor of El Corte Inglés, you have a beautiful view of the square and the city center.
