At an elevation of 2,694 meters above sea level with an prominence of 684 meters, Maja e Jezercës (Jezerca-Spitze) (42.442133 19.812850)  is the highest mountain entirely within Albania. It is located in the Qarku of Shkodër in northern Albania. Jezerca Peak belongs to the Jezerca Group, which lies east of the Popluka Group. The Jezerca Group is the highest and most massive mountain massif in the Albanian Alps. Like most of its neighboring peaks, Jezerca Peak is primarily composed of dolomite.

 The mountain lies between the Valbona Valley, with the village of Valbona to the east, and the Shala Valley, with the village of Theth to the west. Since the ascent from Theth is considerably longer, Valbonë is the ideal starting point. One possible route to the summit is a two-day hike via the Jezerca Lakes. This route is 20 kilometers long, takes approximately 9 hours and 15 minutes, and involves a total elevation gain and loss of 1,670 meters.

 The approach is long and demanding. Once you reach the rugged and difficult-to-access mountain ridge, the spectacular and challenging ascent begins. The route crosses permanent snowfields and includes a short via ferrata section. Upon reaching the summit, hikers will forget all about their efforts when they take in the breathtaking mountain panorama. The large cirques located to the north, east, and west of the peak are particularly impressive

Most hiking guides classify this ascent as "black," meaning it is extremely difficult. A GPS track and the ability to intuitively identify the correct route are essential. This tour requires extensive experience in alpine terrain, proficiency with crampons, climbing skills up to UIAA Grade II, and excellent physical fitness. Stable weather conditions are also a prerequisite. Do not attempt the ascent if the weather forecast is uncertain.
