Seceda – Probably one of the Most Iconic Spots in the Dolomites 🏔️✨

Seceda is one of the most famous locations in the Dolomites, offering breathtaking panoramic views. There are multiple ways to reach the top, depending on how much effort you want to put in:

How to Get to Seceda

🚠 By Cable Car:

• The easiest & fastest way is to take the Ortisei-Furnes-Seceda cable car, which brings you directly to the top.

• Prices vary depending on the season, so it's best to check the website for updated costs.

• Location of the cable car --> there are parking lots around the station.

• Then you can do a bigger loop hike or just follow the loop hike to number 1 & 2 and head back.

• If you’re up for a challenge, you can hike all the way up

• check the loop hike and park your car here. Otherwise you can also park at the Col Raiser Cable Car station and hike to the top. --> For this you can use the App Maps.me and put there this coordinates 46.600360, 11.725486

Best Time to Visit?

I’ve only been to Seceda at midday, which isn't ideal for photography. I’ve tried several times to go for sunrise, but the weather never cooperated.

The best time to hike Seceda is from late June to early October. Here's what to expect during different seasons:

🌿 Summer (Late June – August):

• Best time for warm weather and green landscapes.

• The hiking trails are fully open, and wildflowers are in bloom.

• Can be crowded, especially in July & August, so consider going early in the morning.

🍂 Autumn (September – Early October):

• One of the best times to visit—fewer tourists, golden colors, and clear skies.

• The temperature is cooler, perfect for long hikes.

• Some huts may start closing in October, so check in advance if you plan to stay overnight.

❄️ Winter & Spring (November – May):

• Not ideal for hiking, as Seceda is covered in snow.

• However, it's a popular ski area, and the views are stunning in winter.

• The cable car operates for skiers, but the hiking trails are mostly inaccessible.

☀️ Sunrise:

• The cable car doesn’t run early enough for sunrise, so your only options are:

  • Staying overnight in a mountain hut (I have listed some below).

  • Hiking up in the dark, which takes around 3-4 hours depending on your pace. --> You can park at Col Raiser cable car station and then use this coordinates 46.600360, 11.725486 inside the App maps.me to reach the top.

• However, the huts are often fully booked, especially in peak season. Every time I wanted to spontaneously stay overnight, there were no free spots left, so booking in advance is highly recommended!

Photography at Seceda

Seceda has several hiking routes, whether you want a short panoramic walk or a long adventure. Once at the top, you get stunning views of the Dolomites, with the famous jagged ridgeline making for an epic photo spot.

• here and here you will find the most famous photo spot. I would recommend that when you arrive at the cable car, head to the Cross of Seceda, which is only a few hundred meters away, and follow the Ridgeline. You'll find breathtaking views along the way.

Can You Camp on Seceda?

I've seen people camp near Seceda, but wild camping is officially not allowed in the Dolomites. Rangers do patrol the area, and you could get fined. Pitching a tent is not allowed, but you can sleep outside with your sleeping bag. Otherwise, I’d recommend booking a hut if you want to stay overnight—just be sure to reserve early!
