Just behind Mueller Hut there’s a ridge where keas sometimes fly around. These clever alpine parrots are becoming rare, so if you’re lucky you might spot one or two. Take a little time to walk around the hut and explore the area while keeping an eye out. They make a great subject for photos, especially in flight against the mountains, but watch your gear and snacks because these birds can be very curious and a bit naughty.
