📖 The temple began its existence as a mosque in 1528. It became known as the "Black Mosque" because of the dark granite from which the minaret is made. It was destroyed by an earthquake. This is followed by a period in which the building was a military warehouse and a prison. In 1903 was rebuilt into a church and received the name it carries to this day.
