The Bärenpark in Bern is a modern wildlife park that serves as a home for the city’s iconic brown bears. The bears currently residing here are Björk, Finn, and their daughters Ursina and Berna.

Located along the Aare River, Bärenpark not only provides a habitat for its furry residents but also offers beautiful views of Bern’s UNESCO-listed old town, making it a delightful destination for both locals and tourists.

Opened in October 2009 after extensive renovations, the park spans over 6,000 square meters, providing ample space for the bears to roam and thrive in a natural environment. This area is significantly larger than the previous bear pit, allowing the bears to exhibit more natural behaviors.

Visitors to Bärenpark can observe the bears from various viewpoints throughout the park, including specially designed platforms that offer unique perspectives on these majestic animals. One of the highlights is the opportunity to watch the bears swimming underwater through glass panels near their pool.

In addition to bear observation, the park features informative displays about the history and life of the Bernese bears, enhancing the educational experience for visitors.

Entry to Bärenpark is free, making it accessible to everyone. The park is open year-round, although the bears typically hibernate from late November to March.
