This is perhaps our favourite off-the-beaten path adventure in the New Forest.

A small shingle beach down the end of a long single track road, this beach is a bit of a gem and makes for a great launch spot into the Solant.

Whilst anytime of day works, if you can make it coincide with low tide and a beautiful sunrise then this really is quite special. As the tide goes out it will reveal a number of small tributaries in the water which are great for exploring by kayak or SUP.

Your views will consist of the Isle of Wight, Hurst Castle and Hurst Point Lighthouse, the latter two protrude from the mainland on a spit creating a calm bay of water to explore.

Whilst we took our own inflatable kayak, there are also several places to rent around the New Forest. Many, as standard practise will take you to their local spot on the water, but we find that if you call ahead they're happy to let you rent for the morning/ afternoon and take them away with you. A SUP might be easier if you don't have a roof rack.

Alternatively, even just a walk along this little known beach is pretty special especially if you have a dog, so it's worth a visit even if getting out on the water doesn't appeal to you!

Pro Tip:

Hang about long enough and you might just see one of the local wild ponies strolling along the beach as we did, quite the sight!
