Ring Road, Iceland

  • 112 is the number to call in case of an emergency.

  • There is also the 112 Iceland app that you can download which also allows you to share your GPS coordinates with emergency services.

  • There are hospitals and emergency care clinics along the Ring Road, but are located in the larger towns. Always call 112 in the case of a real emergency.

  • Download the Safetravel.is app (un by ICE-SAR — The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue).

  • For minor emergencies or illness, visit a local healthcare center along the Ring Road, usually located in the nearest town (same goes for pharmacies).

  • Check weather and road conditions daily. Vedur.is and Road.is are reliable websites to monitor these conditions. The Windy app is also helpful.

  • Cells service is generally reliable along the Ring Road, but can be limited in remote areas, so download an offline map before setting out each day.
