The Galata Tower is a symbol of the lovely Beyoğlu district in Istanbul, Turkey.

The watchtower has stood sentinel over virtually every episode of Istanbul’s modern history. First built in 1348 by the Genoese as the Tower of Christ in Romanesque style, it's now a museum and offers an awe-inspiring 360-degree view of the city. It's a very impressice structure and landmark that can be missed standing at 62.59 m (205 ft) tall above sea level.

The mezzanine levels around the tower offer an enchanting journey through its history – from stories of early explorers to a clandestine prison for notable figures in Istanbul society. Even just seeing it down the busy streets of the district is fun, it makes a great picture seeing it right at the bottom of the street.
