Covent Garden is a vibrant district in London, located on the east of West End between St Martin’s Lane and Drury Lane. It dates back to the 7th century when it was a part of the Anglo-Saxon trading town, Lundenwic. The area became notorious by the 18th century for its vast array of brothels. In 1830, a neo-classical building was erected in central square of Covent Garden to cover and organize the market, and the Jubilee Market opened there in 1904. In 1974, the market relocated to Nine Elms, but the central building still remains as a shopping centre filled with cafes, pubs, small shops and a craft market. Transport links are easily accessible: Covent Garden tube station has been running since 1907, and is just short three hundred yard journey from Leicester Square station. Plus, cultural connections to plays, operas, street performance, pubs, bars, restaurants make a visit to Covent Garden an entertaining experience!
