Okayama Castle is a black-exterior castle in the city of Okayama in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. It was built in 1346 by the Nawa Clan and completed in 1597 by Ukita Hideie. The Castle has since seen remarkable history and is known for its classic look and feel. It is affectionately nicknamed “the crow’s nest” due to its black color exterior. The main keep is now a concrete building with air conditioning, elevators, and many displays about the Castle. Guests to the castle will also find an adjacent garden called Kōraku-en that originally belonged to the Ikeda Clan. Okayama Castle is an incredible site to visit and experience a part of Japanese history!
