The Kronberg "Rätselweg" is an activity trail for kids, where you save riddles and puzzles at stations along the trail.

Trail: about 3.5-4.5 hours • 7.2 km • 802m down (or up)

The activity is accompanied by a mobile app that includes augmented reality as part of the experience. The activities explore nature themes like animals, plants, forests, the senses.

The trail is 7.2 km and can be hiked uphill or downhill. Depending on which direction you hike, you will do a different theme, so the clues are solved in the correct order.

You pay a fee to get the puzzle set, which includes some supplies to help you solve the puzzles. You also need a mobile phone with data to do the activities. You can rent a phone on-site if necessary. Instructions are in German only.

At the end of the trail, you turn in the puzzle set and get a reward for solving the puzzles.

How to get there

The trail is located at the Kronberg mountain area - Jakobsbadstrasse 26, 9108 Gonten

You get the puzzle set at the ticket office and also buy a one-way ticket for the cable car.

Ride the cable car to the top, then hike back down on the Rätselweg.

Discount: cable car is 50% with Swiss Travel Pass, Half Fare Card and GA. Free with Oscar Card and Appenzeller Card, available to those staying overnight in the area.
