The Baltimore Beacon is a well-known landmark in the south of Ireland. It is a stone beacon that towers fifty feet high and fifteen feet wide at its base. The beacon was built in 1848 as a response to the 1798 Rebellion, and forms part of a network of warning beacons along the Irish coast. Locally, it is known as "Lot's Wife," a reference to the Biblical woman who was turned into a pillar of salt. The accompanying Sherkin Island Lighthouse was completed in 1885, providing guidance to local fishermen and island-goers. At night, the sparkle of the Baltimore Beacon can be seen from miles around, adding to the beauty of the surrounding region.

It's the perfect sunset spot, so bring some snacks or pop up after dinner in Baltimore Village (dede) is a must. Don't forget to keep an eye out for whales and dolphins off here too.
