🛕 Tempio di Yuantong (圆通寺 – Yuántōng Sì)
Il Tempio di Yuantong è il più grande e antico tempio buddista di Kunming, con oltre 1.200 anni di storia. Costruito durante la dinastia Tang, si trova ai piedi della collina Yuantong ed è ancora oggi un importante centro spirituale per i fedeli locali.
A differenza di molti templi in Cina, il percorso qui è discendente: si entra dall’alto e si scende attraverso cortili, padiglioni e ponticelli che si riflettono in stagni popolati da carpe e tartarughe. Questo crea un’atmosfera unica e meditativa.
Il tempio è famoso per il suo sincretismo religioso: al suo interno convivono elementi del buddismo Chan (Zen), tibetano e theravāda. Tra i punti salienti:
il Padiglione Yuantong, cuore del complesso,
statue di Buddha provenienti dalla Thailandia,
affreschi e iscrizioni che raccontano secoli di devozione.

🛕 Yuantong Temple (圆通寺 – Yuántōng Sì)
The Yuantong Temple is Kunming’s largest and oldest Buddhist temple, with more than 1,200 years of history. Built during the Tang dynasty, it sits at the foot of Yuantong Hill and remains an active spiritual center for local worshippers.
Unlike most Chinese temples, its layout is descending: visitors enter from the top and walk down through courtyards, pavilions, and bridges reflected in ponds filled with koi and turtles, creating a serene and contemplative atmosphere.
The temple is renowned for its religious diversity, blending Chan (Zen), Tibetan, and Theravāda Buddhist traditions. Highlights include:
the Yuantong Main Hall, centerpiece of the complex,
striking Buddha statues donated from Thailand,
frescoes and inscriptions narrating centuries of devotion.
