Lavertezzo is a charming village nestled in the picturesque Verzasca valley in southern Switzerland. It's famous for its double arch stone bridge and crystal clear water rushing over beautiful rock formations in the river.

In summer, many come here to sunbathe and swim in the icy cold water. While we're not crazy enough to jump off the bridge, it's fun to watch brave souls leap off, doing flips into the icy water.

Location: Bus stop Lavertezzo, Paese, about 40 mins from Locarno. Metered parking lot north of the village (see on Google maps).

When to visit: Best pics May to October, swimming usually late June - Aug on hot days

Safe swimming

It can be a dangerous river, with very cold temps and strong currents. So be very careful! No lifeguards on duty.

With children and anyone who is not a strong swimmer, it's better to cool off in the semi enclosed natural pools within the rocks, where you can more safely dip in without high risk being swept away .

A couple hundred meters down from the bridge, below the falls, there is a calmer part of the river that is safer for swimming and some grassy lawns for lounging.

Note: Please pick treat this area respectfully and don't leave litter.

Nearby trails

We love the river trail that starts higher up the valley and ends at the bridge. You can adjust the hike distance from 4 - 13.4 km. See trail map.

The second half of the river trail has marble run activities for kids. Learn about the "BoBosco" activity trail.
