Location:

The Walls of Jerusalem Track is located in Walls of Jerusalem National Park, in the Central Highlands of Tasmania. The main access point is via Lagoons Road, with parking at the Car Park 1 (Kangaroo Creek) or other designated trailheads. Access is mostly via 4WD or high-clearance vehicles and the park is remote, so plan carefully. There is no road leading into the park, the only way to get in is by hiking. The Walls of Jerusalem Track is a multi Day Hike, but you can also do a small part of it in 1 day.

Hike length:

Multi-day hike (loop circuit): up to 30 km, taking 2–4 days with overnight camping at designated sites.

Difficulty Level:

Moderate to challenging — the terrain is mostly alpine, with uneven paths, rocks, and some boggy areas. Multi-day hikes require experience in navigation and backcountry walking.

Dogs allowed:

No, dogs are not permitted in Walls of Jerusalem National Park.

Entry cost / Park passes:

A valid parks pass is required for entry to Tasmania’s national parks. For example:

  • A Daily Pass (up to 24 hours): Per vehicle (up to 8 people) costs AUD $47.70. A per‑person pass (travelling by bus, cycle or on foot) costs AUD $23.85

  • A Holiday Pass (up to 2 months): Per vehicle (up to 8 people) costs AUD $95.50. Per person (travelling by bus/cycle/foot) costs AUD $47.75
This “holiday” option gives you access to all Tasmanian national parks for up to two months from the start date.
Note: Prices may change, so it’s best to check the official site before you go.

More information:

The track passes through stunning alpine landscapes, including dolerite peaks, alpine plains, snow gum forests, and glacial lakes. Highlights include:

  • The Temple: a natural rock formation resembling a stone temple.

  • Lake Ball: a scenic alpine lake along the trail.

  • Mount Jerusalem and surrounding ridges: offering panoramic views of the highlands.

The area is rich in native flora and fauna, including wombats, wallabies, and a variety of alpine plant species. Weather can change rapidly in the highlands, so hikers must be prepared for wind, cold, rain, or snow even in summer.
