NOT RENTING A CAR IN PERU!

The roads are crazy, dirt, cliffside, and people drive very erratically. Highly recommend using Taxidatum or Uber or buses!

If you’re an experienced international driver and plan to explore areas like the Sacred Valley or the coast south of Lima, renting a car can be convenient, but not recommended in major cities like Lima or Cusco due to aggressive driving, confusing road rules, and traffic. Roads in rural areas are often poorly maintained, lack lighting, and may not be clearly marked. If you do drive, get an international driver’s permit, opt for full insurance, and download offline maps before hitting the road.
