Gimsøya is a quiet, scenic island in the Lofoten archipelago, known for its flat, open landscape and wide skies, making it a fantastic place to watch the Northern Lights. It’s often called the “Aurora Park” because of its minimal light pollution, low mountains, and unobstructed views to the north. There are only a few houses scattered across the island, which means dark skies and high chances of spotting the aurora on clear nights.
One of the best and safest spots to park is at Hoven parking. From there, you can wait comfortably in your car while keeping an eye on the sky. Please avoid stopping in the middle of the road, Gimsøya may feel remote, but other cars do pass, and it can be dangerous in the dark. With a bit of patience and clear conditions, Gimsøya is one of the most rewarding aurora hunting locations in Lofoten.
