Quiet Alley With a Glow of Old Tokyo

This little alley in Ikebukuro totally surprised me. Tucked away behind the buzz of the city, Mikuni-koji feels like stepping into a different time. The warm lanterns, old wooden facades, and glowing shop signs give it that nostalgic vibe you only find in places that haven’t changed much. I came here at night and found it almost empty—just a few people quietly heading into tiny bars and restaurants.

It’s one of those spots where you just want to slow down, take in the details, and maybe grab a quick handheld shot before the moment fades. The tall building in the background adds this cool contrast—old Tokyo in the front, new Tokyo behind.

Best Time to Photograph:
Come at night. The lights really make the place come alive, and the emptiness adds a peaceful, cinematic mood. It’s perfect for handheld night shots—just be quick and respectful, since people are usually dining nearby.
