Have you heard about Caminho da Entrosa in Madeira?
There is no information about it in the official guidebooks.
That's why I’ve added this trail to my list of hidden gems & underrated places in Madeira 😎 It is only 1,5 km one way (3 km round trip), so this route can hardly be called ‘hike’, rather it’s just a walk 💁🏼♂ Nevertheless, about 700 meters of hike at the very beginning is an uphill climb to a height of 200 meters above the ocean. But when you go up, you realize that it was really worth it.
This short 3 km hike takes you through stunning natural beauty, with breathtaking views of the island’s rugged coastline and lush greenery.
Park your car here and then simply follow the signs for Camino de Entronso, heading right uphill along the mountain trail. Once you reach O Arco Restaurant, you can turn around and walk back the same way. This is an easy walk of approximately 3 km and takes about 1 hour in total.
After this, from the parking area, you can turn left and follow the trail downhill, cross the stream, and then climb up to the very scenic São Cristovão Restaurant. Spending 30–60 minutes there with a drink while enjoying the views is an experience in itself, especially after completing the hike.
This is a GPS track of the trail
For those who aren't particularly keen on hiking and don't want to trek up the mountain, here's a hack: you can park your car on the other side of the hill near the O Arco restaurant and take a leisurely walk along the same trail to enjoy the views without significant descents and ascents. Be sure to save this point on your map.
Make sure to check the weather and cloud conditions in the area via a webcam before heading out.
