Eglinton Valley is a flat, dramatic glacial valley right off the Milford Road, ideal for easy walks, biking on the gravel floor, photos and a picnic rather than rugged tramping. There are very few services and cell coverage is patchy, so bring water, snacks, warm waterproof layers and insect repellent because midges and sandflies can be relentless in summer. Stick to formed tracks and cross braided rivers only at safe, obvious points to protect fragile vegetation and avoid getting stuck in soft gravel. Parking at the laybys fills on busy days and dogs are not allowed in Fiordland National Park, so plan accordingly.
